ℹ️ About ITIN and ECI

ECI (Effectively Connected Income) is income directly connected to business activities conducted in the US. For example, selling via Amazon FBA with inventory stored in a US warehouse or providing services to US-based clients may constitute ECI.

Although an ITIN is not technically required for single-member LLC owners without ECI, the IRS already receives your company's transaction volume and income reports from banks, Amazon, Shopify, Etsy and other marketplaces at the end of each year. Having an ITIN strengthens your tax compliance and prevents potential issues.

For partnerships: If there is income from US business activity (ECI), each partner must have an ITIN and tax returns must be filed with the ITIN. This is mandatory.
